Rift Lake Cichlids Edinburgh
Stuart Grant 1937-2007
It is with great sadness that the news of the death of Stuart Grant on 11 October 2007 reached his friends all over the world.
Stuart achieved so much and inspired so many people in his time in Malawi that no short
piece here can do justice to the man.
It was wonderful for a lucky few
of us to share dinner with him and then enjoy his company at the British
Cichlid Association event in Hull in March 2007. He was in good form and
gave an impressive talk on the joys of visiting Lake Malawi, something I
am doing again in February 2008, though the experience won't be the same
without Stuart to lend a guiding hand.
Scottish fish-keepers Alex Weir, Ricky Angus and myself had the opportunity in
recent years to visit Stuart and Esther at their lodge and fish station
at Kambiri Point in Malawi. We were all bowled over by the warmth of
welcome and the amount of time that Stuart would give to ensuring that
we had all that we needed, and I felt very lucky during my short visit to have
spent many hours with Stuart talking about just about everything under
the sun.
