Visit to Mchenga Nkwichi Lodge, near Cobue, Mozambique November 2004

This page contains a selection of pictures taken at Mchenga Nkwichi Lodge, near Cobue in Mozambique. The Lodge is part of an eco-tourism initiative called Manda Wilderness Project (MWP).  MWP uses earnings from tourism to assist impoverished local communities, and to conserve the local flora and fauna in an area of land and lake still almost untouched by man's influence.

Part of their current planning involves the setting up of an aquatic nature reserve of around 140 hectares. It was reading about this project in a recent British Cichlid Association publication that inspired me to visit Lake Malawi. As you will see from the following pictures, my focus was on photographing the fishes, with a view to assisting in the early stages of species identification in the area.

The Lodge provides unbelievable comfort and beautifully prepared food. It is an absolute must for anyone visiting Lake Malawi!
