LAKE MALAWI PICTURE GALLERY
Mchenga Nkwichi Lodge, Mozambique

Pictures taken at Mchenga Nkwichi Lodge, near Cobue in Mozambique, from a visit to the lodge in November 2004. The Lodge is part of an eco-tourism initiative, Manda Wilderness Project (MWP).  MWP uses earnings from tourism to assist impoverished local communities, and to conserve the local flora and fauna in an area of land and lake still almost untouched by man's influence.

Part of their current planning involves the setting up of an aquatic nature reserve of around 140 hectares. It was reading about this project in a British Cichlid Association publication that inspired me to visit Lake Malawi. My focus was on photographing the fishes, with a view to assisting in the early stages of species identification in the area.

The Lodge provides fantastic comfort and beautifully prepared food in a rare wilderness setting.
